George Clinton was the son of Hannah A. Billig and Peter Fetterman. He and Mary Agnes Carl married at the ages of 21 and 22, respectively. Mary Agnes was the daughter of Lydia Beaver and Samuel Carl. In 1910, Clinton and Mary were renting a home in Conyngham Township, Columbia County, PA, and Clinton was working as a laborer in the coal mines. They had three children at this time. By 1920, he and Mary were now living in Franklin Township where they had bought a home, and Clinton was reported to be a laborer in a coal mine. They now had four children, and their daughter had married; she and her husband were also living with them. By 1930, Clinton and Mary were still living in Franklin Township with three children, and he was listed in that census as owning his home and being a laborer doing odd jobs.
