Rolandus and Lucy A. Fetterman Herbein

Rolandus Herbein, a miller, was born in Locust Township on August 12, 1840, a son of Catherine Anins and Peter K. Herbein, natives of Berks County, PA. He married Lucy A. Fetterman, daughter of Catharine Yeager and George Fetterman, on November 18, 1866. The married was announced in the Columbia Democrat on November 28, 1866, and in the Columbian on November 24, 1866.

His grandfather emigrated to Slabtown and bought a property on which he operated a grist-mill for a few years. Rolandus was also reared to this trade and worked for his father until the outbreak of the Rebellion. In August 1861, he enlisted in the Catawissa Guards (Corp'l Company H, 132 REC. PV) in the nine-month's service. They went from Catawissa to Harrisburg, and from there to Washington, D.C., and participated in their first battle at Antietam. After that battle, he was seized with typhoid fever and was taken to the field hospital at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. After being there for a number a weeks, his father arrived and brought him back home. Not long after his recovery, he suffered a relapse and was cared for at a hospital in Harrisburg for about a month. After that, he was taken to Little York where he remained until his regiment was discharged. He then returned home but suffered from a nervous disease. Upon his return, he engaged in milling until 1880 when he retired, no longer able to work. He served as township auditor, judge of elections, and school director several terms. In 1883, he was a messenger in the House of Representatives at Harrisburg, and in politics, he was a Democrat.

Lucy was a member of the IOOF, No. 310, Numidia (from History of Columbia and Montour Counties Pennsylvania, Battle, 1887, pg. 495).

I have found no record of any children being born of this marriage.
