Maurice Alvin Fetterman was the son of Susannah Rarig and Uriah Fetterman, and he was born in Roaring Creek Township, Columbia County, PA. About 1903, he married the former Mary Elizabeth Billig, daughter of Amandus and Charlotte Elmeyna Fetterman Billig, and when first married, they lived in Roaring Creek where Maurice worked as a farmer. In 1920, the family had moved to Shenandoah Township, Schuylkill County, PA, and Maurice was now working as a carpenter. By 1930, they had settled in West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County. Of this marriage, eight children were born:

1. Sterling Stanley;
2. Elva Harriet;
3. Estella Pauline;
4. Glenn R.;
5. Tessie C.;
6. Ross V.;
7. Lee; and
8. Regina.

After Mary’s death, he again remarried, but no children were born of the second marriage. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Shenandoah.
