Elemina Gackenbach Gernerd

Elemina was the daughter of Maryann and Benjamin Gackenbach, a farmer living in Upper Macungie, Lehigh County, PA. On April 8, 1858, Elemina married Charles Alfred Gernerd, son of Lea Ziegler and Jonas Gernert. Alfred changed the spelling of the family name to Gernerd. They lived in Trexlertown, PA, and Charles worked at both farming and mining iron ore. Six children were born of this marriage: Charles Wilson B., Harvey Americus, Christopher Peter, who died in childhood, Annie Leonara, Joseph Alfred, and Jennie Attilla. While the 1930 Census for Allentown, PA, indicates that Elemina was a widow by this time, Charles is not buried here with her.

This branch of the family descends from Anna Rosina Fetterman and John Gernhardt.
