Isaiah was the son of Sarah A. (Salome) Adams and Franklin Fetterman, a farmer from Locust Township, Columbia County, PA. He married Lydia Alice, the oldest daughter of Emma Fetterman and Michael P. Hill, a farmer from Roaring Creek Township, Columbia County, PA. Alice was born in Catawissa Township, Columbia County. In 1910, the census shows that Lydia and Isaiah were living in Catawissa Township, where they were renting a home next to Alices parents. At this time, Isaiah was working as a laborer on the railroad, they had been married for three years, and had one child:
By 1920, they were now living in Locust Township, Columbia County. Isiaiah was now farming for a living, and another four children had been born:
In 1930, Isaiah continued with the occupation of farmer, and they were still living in Locust Township. Four more children had since been born:
