Stella Eva Fetterman and Joseph J. Levan

Stella was the daughter and one of five children born to Amanda Rhodes and Harvey Theodore Fetterman, born in Numidia Township, Columbia County, PA. A graduate of the former Locust Township High School, Stella worked as a switchboard operator before the advent of a dial system.

In 1933, she married Joseph J., a son of Mary Markel and Francis Levan of Roaring Creek Township, Columbia County, PA. After her marriage, they moved to Roaring Creek Township, where she helped out on the family farm. Although there were no children born of this marriage, Stella was survived by a son, William L. Fetterman.

In addition to farming, Joseph served as a secretary-treasurer of the township for forty years and he was a road supervisor for thirty-six years. Stella was a charter member of the Roaringcreek Valley Grange where Joseph was also a member serving for many years as treasurer of that organization. They were both members of the Kulp United Methodist Church, and Joseph served on the board of trustees for the church. In addition, Stella was a member of the Roaring Creek Valley Flower Club, and Joseph was a member of the Valley Fire Company, Numidia, and a member of the North Kulp Hunting Club.

At the time of Joseph’s death, they were married 49 years.
