Tessie was the sixth of eight children born to Mary Elizabeth Billig and Maurice Alvin Fetterman. She was born in Shenandoah Township, Schuylkill County, PA. About 1930, she married Ray, son of Elizabeth and Philip Beaver of Lost Creek Township, Schuylkill County, PA. When first married, they lived with his parents, and Ray worked as a laborer in a mine colliery. Their daughter Doris June is buried next to her.
