Willard was the only son and one of three children born to Hannah Helwig and Daniel B. Fetterman. About 1886, he married Sarah B. Rugh. They made their home in Danville Borough, Montour County, PA, where Willard worked as a molder in a stove factory. Of this marriage, one child was born:

1. Hannah Marie.

Willard and Sarah are buried side by side of his parents.
