Sue Kirkendall, Wife of Henry H. FettermanHenry was the son and one of eight children born to Mary Ann Berninger & Jonas Fetterman, born in Numidia, Locust Township, PA. In his early years, he was known as Haines. After leaving home, he worked on the farm of John Mensch in Mifflin, Montour Township in Columbia County, PA. In 1887, he married Susan, daughter of Elizabeth Smoyer and Henry Kirkendall of Nescopeck Township. In 1900, he and Sue were living in Briar Creek with their only child, Alfred Delroy, and mother-in-law. By 1910, they had made their home in Berwick Borough on West Front Street, and Henry worked for a rolling mill.

They were members of the First Baptist Church of Berwick, the church of which Sue had belonged for over fifty years. When Henry’s health began to fail, he took up the duties of sexton at the church. He was also a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, Berwick lodge 246. At the time of his death, they were married twenty-nine years, and Sue remained in their home until her death at the age of 71 years, 2 months, and 5 days.
