Alverda was the only daughter and oldest child born to Carrie M. Kramer and Charles W. Fetterman, in Berwick Borough, Columbia County, PA. She was married on March 27, 1937, to Albert E. Buck, the oldest of nine children born in Beaver Valley to Cora E. and Samuel Hummel, also of Berwick Borough. The marriage was performed in her home by the Rev. H. H. Shipe, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church. At the time of their marriage, Albert was employed by Bethlehem Steel Company in Wilmington, Delaware, where they first made their home. Of this marriage, only one child was born, James L., and he lived only to age seven. They moved back to Berwick Borough where they were living at the time of her fathers death, and and her husband was named as executor of her fathers Will. Buck was employed in the maintenance department at the Weis Potato Chip Company in Berwick, and he was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, F.O.E., Berwick, and the West Berwick Hose Company. Albert died just two years after her father, breaking a marital span of thirty-one years. Alverda was also a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Berwick, and at the time of her death, Alverda had been a guest of the Berwick Retirement Village for 6 1/2 years.
