John E., also known as Jack, was the fourth of eight children born to Clara Ellen Myers and John A. Fetterman of Scott Township, Columbia County, PA, and he was born in Lightstreet. He graduated from Catawissa High School in 1936 where he had been an outstanding soccer player. On June 6, 1945, he married Gertrude M., daughter and one of three children born to Etta Kimery and Charles Yeagle; she was born in Chester, PA. They made their home in Bloomsburg, Columbia County, PA. Gertrude graduated from Chester High School in 1938,
and in 1944, she graduated from the Bloomsburg Hospital School of Nursing.
Jack was a barber for sixty-two years, beginning his career in Catawissa
and later owning a shop in Bloomsburg. He was a life member of the Bloomsburg
Elks Lodge No. 436, and he enjoyed fishing and restoring antique furniture.
Mildred worked as a registered nurse at the Bloomsburg Hospital and Geisinger
Medical Center. She also did private duty nursing. Methodist in faith,
they were members of the Wesley United Methodist Church. No children were born of this marriage, and at the time of Mildred's death, they were married almost fifty-four years. Picture documented on June 1, 2004. |
