Violet A. Hershman and Spurgeon W. Fetterman

Spurgeon was one of 11 children born to Sarah A. Wertz and William Henry Fetterman, and he was born in Berwick Borough, Columbia County, PA. On June 2, 1934, he married Violet O., daughter of Veda R. Fausey and James Hershman of Espy Township, Columbia County, PA. They made their home in Espy Township, and of this marriage, three children were born.

Spurgeon worked as a custodian for Central Columbia Schools and retired in 1971 with over twenty years’ service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country honorably in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Espy Fire Company.

Violet worked for the U. S. Radium Corporation which later became USX Metals Inc., and she retired in 1973 with twenty-five years of service. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Espy Fire Company.

They were both of the Methodist faith with Henry a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Espy, and Violet a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy.

In addition to her husband, Violet was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Marie.
