John, son of Sarah Whitner and Cornelius S. Fetterman of Numidia, Locust Township, Columbia County, PA, married Clara Ellen, daughter of Elizabeth Everhart and William Myers of Shenandoah, PA, in 1909. When they were first married, they made their home with John’s widowed father, and John worked as a laborer on the farm. By 1920, they were living in Scott Township where they owned a farm and John worked as a farmer.

Of this marriage, eight children were born:

1. Karl Kermit;
2. Mildred E.;
3. Anna;
4. John Edward;
5. Glen P.;
6. Edna;
7. Jean; and
8. Robert Eldon.
   

In 1926, the family moved to Catawissa Township, and John worked for Catawissa Garage, Inc. for twenty-six years. After his death, Ellen moved to Bloomsburg. They were Methodist in faith.
