Mildred was the second of eight children born to Clara Ellen Myers and John A. Fetterman of Scott Township, Columbia County, PA. On August 12, 1929, she married Gordon, son of Katie M. and Ernest Arner of Catawissa Township, Columbia County, PA. Early in their marriage, they lived with Gordon’s parents, and Gordon worked as a laborer at a hardware store. They later owned and operated Arner’s Boarding home until their retired. After their retirement, they wintered in Florida.

They were Lutheran in faith and attended the St. Jame’s Lutheran Church in Hobbie. At the time of Mildred’s death, they were married sixty years and were the parents of two daughters and a son.
