September 23, 1854 - March 12, 1903

Fairview Cemetery, Allentown, PA

Alice Amanda Gernert Stuckert

Alice was the youngest daughter and one of four children born to Eliza Hinkle and Reuben Gernert of Allentown City, Lehigh County, PA. She married Abraham Stuckert on November 2, 1876, and two children were born of this marriage:

  1. Emily I.; and
  2. Benjamin H.

When first married, they lived with Alice’s parents, and Abraham worked in the livery stable of her parents’ hotel. By 1900, her marriage had ended in divorce, and she was living with her sister and brother at 218 9th Street in Allentown.

“She died on March 12, 1903, of an attack of heart sickness, occurring on the streets of Allentown, while on her way home from making calls on her brothers, who reside a number of squares from her residence. She was near the office of her physician, and called to some persons she saw to ring the Doctor’s bell. She was immediately taken to the office, but all the efforts to resuscitate her proved of no avail, and she soon ceased to breathe.” (from Heinrich Gernhardt and His Descendants, published 1904, pp. 200-201)

Headstone documented August 7, 2004.
