Here are some of the churches that both our Fetterman ancestors and present-day relations have worshiped. Except for one of the buildings, these churches are still in operation today. The cemeteries are well-kept, and you can find many of our ancestors resting here. In addition to Fettermans, you will find the names of Brobst, Herbines, Rarig, Rhoades, Yeagers, Yocums, Billigs, Richards, Reichards, Straussers, Georges, and many others in these cemeteries.

If you have any pictures of churches that I do not have posted here and would like to see them listed, please contact me with the information on the church and cemetery, address, directions, etc. I will be more than happy to include them here.

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Old Zionsville, PA
Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Old Zionsville, PA, from the rear

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is located in Upper Milford Township, Old Zionsville, PA. It is a very old church that enjoys a large congregation to the present day. The address follows:

2901 Kings Highway South (directly off of Route 100)
Zionsville, PA 18092

For a $5 donation, you can write to the church and receive a copy of the burial records from the year of 1758 up to the present day.

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Catawissa, PA St. Paul Lutheran Church, Catawissa, PA

St. Paul Lutheran Church is located in Numidia, directly to the left on Ringtown Mountain Road. There is a blinking light at the intersection of Route 42 and Ringtown Mountain Road and it is right down the road after DJ's Bar. The address is:

27 Ringtown Mountain Road
Catawissa, PA 17820

For a donation of $10, they will provide you with a diskette copy of the burial records for this cemetery. The file is an MS Excel spreadsheet.

St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Catawissa, PA St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Catawissa, PA

Be prepared to spend a good bit of time here at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. This church is almost directly across the street on your right from St. Paul Lutheran above. There was no one at this church on either of my visits to inquire as to records of those buried here, and while there are many beautiful headstones in this cemetery, there are just as many that are in very sad condition. Their address is:

Ringtown Mountain Road & Route 42
Catawissa, PA 17858

If you write to the church for information, you should address it to General Delivery, rather than indicating the road to the church.

Grace UCC Church - Millgrove, Catawissa, PA Grace UCC Church - Millgrove, Catawissa, PA
Grace UCC Church–Milgrove was another very beautiful church. It is a few miles down Ringtown Mountain Road from the above two churches. You follow the road and it will veer to the right where the name then changes to Millgrove Road. You continue to follow this road until you come to a fork in the road. Bear to your left, and you will drive right into the church parking lot. This church is located in Millgrove, PA. One of the locals I spoke with while at lunch at DJ's related that this church is also part of St. Paul's UCC.
The Former Freewill United Brethren of Christ Church, Catawissa, PA This church just took my breath away when I drove up to it and got out. As you can see, the first thing I did was to take a picture of it. I was somewhat confused as there was no sign indicating just what church it was. As it turns out, this is no longer a church but a private home. We were very careful while visiting here as there was no one to ask if the owners had acquired the cemetery along with the home. There was a very tempting apple orchard right behind the cemetery, but we did not partake in any of the apples. You can find the directions to this cemetery below.
From my research of the history of Locust Township, I have determined that this church was organized when William Yeager, in 1873, offered $100 and an acre of ground to any denomination of Christians who would build a house of worship. The offer was taken up by the Brethren of Christ Church and the church was erected and then dedicated in the year 1876.
Kulp United Methodist Church, Catawissa, PA Kulp United Methodist Church, Catawissa, PA

Kulp was the last church I visited on my recent trip, and it was quite a delight to come upon this church. I am not sure that there are Fettermans buried in this church cemetery. I did not come upon the name of Fetterman, but there were many Yeagers buried here. Both Freewill Cemetery and Kulp United Methodist Church and Cemetery can be accessed by traveling Route 42 to Kulp Road. If you are traveling from Catawissa, you would make a left onto Kulp Road and follow it to the end. At the stop sign, make a left onto Old Reading Road. This is a winding road, and you will follow it for at least three miles before coming up to the Freewill Cemetery. Kulp United Methodist Church and Cemetery is located another two or three miles beyond this cemetery.

The address for Kulp United Methodist Church is:

RR1
Catawissa, PA 17820
